Core documentation · initial version
Understand, install, and evaluate ForgeRouter.
This documentation covers core routing flows, standalone Docker setup, and admin dashboards. Full API reference, troubleshooting, and advanced operations follow in upcoming releases.
Overview
A self-hosted gateway between your applications and AI models.
ForgeRouter intercepts requests through compatible interfaces, inspects provider registries, evaluates capacity and health, and queries targets in priority order. Applications shed vendor-specific details and gain a centralized control plane.
ForgeRouter is a community open-source product run directly by Darckware in production. The codebase can be evaluated freely without contracts; customization, deployment, integration, and maintenance are available if you wish to embed it in your enterprise.
How it works
From incoming request to best available destination.
Standardized ingestion
Applications use OpenAI Chat Completions, Anthropic Messages, or OpenAI Responses.
Registry & demand classification
The gateway queries providers and models, evaluates capabilities, and classifies task intent in automated mode.
Health & priority resolution
Only healthy and enabled candidates enter routing chains, ordered by priority, health status, and latency.
Fallback & telemetry logging
If an endpoint fails before starting stream delivery, the next candidate is engaged and the event is fully logged.
Quickstart
Standalone installation with Docker.
The official script prepares configuration files, provisions database credentials, starts PostgreSQL, runs migrations, and launches ForgeRouter. The installer is fully idempotent and safe to rerun.
Verification
The dashboard is hosted at http://127.0.0.1:2100/. On first login, default administrator credentials must be changed. For production rollouts, networking, TLS, secrets, backups, and monitoring should be tailored to enterprise governance.
The standalone install is ideal for trials. Darckware can architect enterprise networking, harden security, configure model pools, wire integrations, and manage automated backups and monitoring.

Enterprise adoption
The software is open-source. Deployment can be professionally supported.
Tailored to your stack
Integrations, routing rules, agent profiles, and extensions mapped to legacy systems.
Turnkey operational cluster
Networking, containers, databases, secret management, agent accounts, security, and verification.
Continuity & evolution
Monitoring, automated backups, version upgrades, incident response, and routing enhancements.
